About

Weed Out the Risk (WOTR) is an interactive, harm reduction based educational program which informs youth and young adults of the risks associated with using cannabis and driving, or being a passenger in a vehicle with a high driver.

Developed by Springboard, a community based youth serving organization with a proven track record in this area, this national program is available in both French and English. WOTR is endorsed by MADD Canada, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), YMCA Canada, Cannabis Council of Canada, educators and most importantly, by tens of thousands of youth who have participated in the program. Launched in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area in 2014, the pilot phase resulted in WOTR’s message being delivered to over 17,000 youth.

How it Works

Whether being delivered in high schools via our partnership with MADD Canada or in community based settings in collaboration with partner organizations like the YMCA Canada and John Howard Society, Weed Out the Risk (WOTR) is led by a trained facilitator who engages youth through interactive discussion, games, activities and videos.

Moving Forward

Building on the pilot’s success and partnerships, Weed Out the Risk was approved for multi-year funding under Health Canada’s SUAP to both update and scale the program across Canada. Springboard officially launched the national program on October 12th, 2018, with expansion currently underway as we work toward reaching 500,000 youth over the next three years.
